Baku, 10 March 2021 –

'Once again assessing the army's restraint in the face of the opposition's pressure to involve it in political processes, at the same time I welcome the decision of the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia to challenge his resignation by legal means,' said the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, reports.

Ter-Petrosyan, in particular, noted: 'I would also like to emphasise that the main and only reason for the current explosive situation is the painful attachment of a person who completely failed his mission of ruling the country and led our people to a humiliating defeat, to his chair, which is fraught with new and much more painful threats.

At the same time, for the umpteenth time I want to repeat that the issue of changing the government should be resolved exclusively by constitutional means, and the prerequisite for this should be the immediate achievement of a compromise between the government and the opposition. I do not think that the opportunity for this has been exhausted, because, despite its harsh rhetoric, the opposition has not yet crossed the red lines. In case of deviation from the constitutional path, Armenia will never again have the opportunity to become a normal and worthy state. So the way out of this situation is not only and not so much a matter of the moment, but prospects.'
